Tuesday 19 March Great Expectations Mike Newell, Drama, 128 min, English with Arabic subtitles, 2012 (PG - 15)
Pip is an orphan whose childhood of poverty turned into an unexpected adulthood of wealth, thanks to an anonymous benefactor. He pursues Estella, the beautiful yet proud and cold-hearted young woman, he has always loved. But in order to maintain his status and protect the ones he loves, no one should ever know the truth behind his sudden stature. The film is based on the novel by Charles Dickens. “Great Expectations” was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award at the BAFTA Awards 2013.
Wednesday 20 March Wuthering Heights Andrea Arnold, Drama/ Romance, 129 min, English with Arabic subtitles, 2011 (PG-18)
The film is based on Emily Bronte's novel of forbidden love. When Mr. Earnshaw brings Heathcliff - a poor boy with unknown origins - to live with his family, an innocent love story between Heathcliff and the young daughter, Catherine, sparks. It soon grows into a complicated relationship filled with stubbornness, affection and strong feelings. “Wuthering Heights” has won 5 awards, including a Golden Osella at the Venice Film Festival 2011.
Thursday 21 March My Week with Marilyn Simon Curtis, Biography/ Drama, 99 min, in English with Arabic subtitles, 2011 (PG - 13)
The film is based on both books by Colin Clark's “The Prince, The Showgirl and Me” and “My Week with Marilyn”, in which he depicts the week he escorted Marilyn around England, while she was there to film “The Prince and the Showgirl” with Laurence Olivier. Colin documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn, which made the production of the film less easy, his personal infatuation with Marilyn. It also gives a closer exclusive look at this ever-lasting sex symbol. “My Week with Marilyn” was nominated for two Oscars and has won 18 awards, including Best Actress at the Golden Globe 2012.
