Turab (meaning Soil in Arabic) was established in 2004 by a group of young Palestinian musicians from diverse backgrounds seeking to develop a contemporary Palestinian musical tradition.
Turab’s music tries to tackle through instrumental pieces and songs the complexities of politics, love, social justice, and daily life under occupation in Palestine. It draws on a distinguished tradition of politically and socially engaged music and songs, yet hits a unique note all of its own. Musician Basel Zayed, the group founder, asserts their constant search for distinctive lyrics and music that express the daily concerns and dreams of the average individual. Turab has already released three albums: Hada Leil (This is the Night)(2006), Adam (2010) and “In Jerusalem” (2011), and they are currently working on a new release.
