To celebrate diversity and cultural fusion, the Amman Jazz Festival will present a great variety of Jazz music to the public, from Standard Jazz to European avant-garde as well as Latin and Oriental Jazz fusion and everything in between.
The festival features 16 international and regional bands, more than 70 musicians and 36 jazz live performances across town, different genres of Jazz music will be showcased from various parts of the world; Japan, Germany, Holland, Spain, Italy, Armenia, Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Jordan. The festival will start on the 30th of April, celebrating the International Jazz Day which is a yearly event organized by UNESCO to celebrate “the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people. This year's inaugural performance is entitled "Jazz for Syria" and is organized in collaboration with the Syrious Mission (Netherlands). The Festival will last until the end of May 2014.
The Festival’s main stage concerts will take place at ZARA Expo and Al Balad Theater during the weekends, while various indoor and outdoor jazz evenings are organized with partner venues such as Blue Fig, Oobe, Villa 14, the Boulevard - Abdali, and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Dead Sea. Moreover, the after concerts “Jazz Nights” are organized at the JJ’s on weekends in cooperation with Grand Hyatt – Amman.
This year the European Union is celebrating Europe Day, which is held every year on 9th May, with the Amman Jazz Festival. The concerts being performed on this day are a collaborative effort between musicians from Europe and the Middle East, reflecting the partnership between the European Union and its neighbourhood, and the emphasis the European Union puts on collaboration in all its work. The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) are a network of six cultural institutions in Amman that have come together with a common goal and who have been commission by the European Union to implement cultural activities including music collaborations. The concerts on Europe Day will take place at Zara Expo and will be free of charge.
Workshops, Jazz talks, and master classes will be organized hosting guest Jazz experts in collaboration with local music institutions, targeting beginners and professionals, as well as non-jazz musicians, where they will be trained in the technical, conceptual, and historical aspects of jazz.
The Festival’s aim is to reach out to various age group and mixed social backgrounds, through the many new entertaining and educational programs that the festival will be introducing for the first time in Jordan focusing on families, students as well as music lovers.
